Strong performance by Gesa Felicitas Krause: The 3000-meter obstacle runner made for the first German podium at this World Championships in Athletics. With a strong final spurt, she secured third place.

European champion Gesa Felicitas Krause again won the bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships in Doha over 3000 meters of obstacle. The 27-year-old ran in the German record time of 9: 03,30 minutes behind the new world champion and world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech from Kenya (8: 57,84) and defending champion Emma Coburn from the US (9: 02,35) to the finish and won the first medal for the German team in Qatar. Four years ago in Beijing Krause had also won bronze medals.

Olympic champion Ruth Jebet (Bahrain) was missing in Doha after being suspended for a positive doping test.

Krause, 2017 in London after a crash unlucky World Cup ninth, is now behind Russia's former world record holder Gulnara Galkina (8:58:81) the second fastest European in history. "That was not the work of a year, but of ten years," Krauses coach Wolfgang Heinig said on ZDF.
