In the spear drama of Doha, European champion Christin Hussong has missed a close to world championship medal. Until the last round, the 25-year-old was still on the bronze medal, then the Australian Kelsey-Lee Barber with 66.56 meters still managed the throw from fourth place to gold. For Hussong (65.21) behind the Chinese women Liu Shiying (65.88) and Lyu Huihui (65.49) only came in fourth.

The podium decision was already at 5.80 meters: Only three jumpers made it over the third launched altitude and then competed for the medals. First it took Kendricks three attempts over 5.87 meters, then it was Duplantis who only came in the third jump over 5.92 meters - for which he had specially chosen a new staff. Lisek failed at 5.97 meters and the trio became a duel for gold. The defending champion Kendricks decided at 6.02 meters for himself, as he had fewer failures.
The Germans could be satisfied. The 20-year-old Bo Kanda Lita Baehre took a very good fourth place due to the few failures. 5.80 meters would have been personal best for him. Also Raphael Holzdeppe missed the jump over the height and finished at the end of the sixth place. World record holder Renaud Lavillenie had not made it to the final, the Frenchman had surprisingly already failed in qualifying.
