Handball champions SG Flensburg-Handewitt failed for the third time in a row in the round of 16 of the DHB Cup. The North German defeated in the home arena the Bundesliga leaders Hannover-Burgdorf 20:26 (9:15).
The Hanoverians, who had already won the league match against the SG a week ago, put in front of the strong goalkeeper Urban Lesjak a superior defense against which Flensburg found no solution. In the attack the Danish world champion Olsen controlled the game sovereign, Hannover led shortly after the break with seven goals.
The four-time Cup winner Flensburg could not catch up on this lead and missed again the quarter-finals. Between 2011 and 2017, Flensburg had at least reached the finals every year. This is followed by the third defeat in the round of the last 16 teams.
