World Athletics Championships: Salwa Eid Naser wins 400 meters

21 years, 133 days. Jünger was not yet a sprinter, who won the world title over the 400-meter distance. Salwa Eid Naser has not only made history with her age. Also her time was not so bad.



400 meters, women
GOLD: Salwa Eid Naser (Bahrain) - 48.14 seconds
SILVER: Shaunae Miller-Uibo (Bahamas) - 48.37 seconds
Bronze: Shericka Jackson (Jamaica) - 49.47 seconds

Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain won gold at the World Athletics Championships in Doha over the 400 meters. With 21 years and 133 days, she secured the title of the stadium round as the youngest sprinter in history. Naser ran the third fastest time in history over 400 meters.

Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo had gone into the race as top favorite, but she only stayed in second place. She still lacks the world championship title in her medal collection, two years ago in London she had become as a favorite only fourth. A German runner was not in Qatar at the start.

Heptathlon, women
Gold: Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Great Britain) - 6981 points
Silver: Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium) - 6677 points
Bronze: Verena Preiner (Austria) - 6560 points

Katharina Johnson-Thompson has dominated the seven-fighters and dethroned Nafissatou Thiam. The 26-year-old prevailed surprisingly clearly against the Olympic champion and European champion from Belgium. Bronze went to the Austrian Verena Preiner with 6560 points.

Johnson-Thompson missed the twelve-year-old European record of the Swede Carolina Klüft only by 55 points, and thus by 3.85 seconds in the final 800 -meter run. The Frankfurt-based Carolin Schäfer, who won silver in London two years ago, had to cancel her start due to injury.

Shot put, women
GOLD: Gong Lijiao (China) - 19.55 meters
SILVER: Danniel Thomas-Dodd (Jamaica) - 19.47 meters
BRONZE: Christina Schwanitz (Germany) - 19.17 meters

Schwanitz has won the second German medal at this World Cup for the shot putters. With a strong penultimate attempt, she secured herself bronze. Only the Jamaican Thomas Dodd was even stronger. Chinese Gong Lijiao was the only athlete to do any of her valid attempts over 19 meters. Read more here.

GOLD: Niklas Kaul (Germany) - 8691 points
SILVER: Maicel Uibo (Estonia) - 8604 points
BRONZE: Damian Warner (Canada) - 8529 points

Sensational Gold shortly after brought 21-year-old German Niklas Kaul. With a superb javelin throwing the U23 European Champion made a very good starting position before the final 1500 -meter run.
