Hitzlsperger becomes the new CEO of VfB Stuttgart

Thomas Hitzlsperger joins VfB Stuttgart from Sports Director to Chief Executive Officer. The club has not yet confirmed internal promotion.

VfB Stuttgart will make Sports Director Thomas Hitzlsperger CEO of Fußball AG. This is reported by the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" and the "SWR" in unison. The promotion will be announced in the coming days, so far, the second division did not comment. The 37-year-old should sign a contract for three years.

Hitzlsperger has been sporting director of the Bundesliga team since February. Previously, he was head of the junior department for one year and a member of the board for about one and a half years. As an active professional of the former midfielder was from 2005 to 2010 in the club and won with the VfB 2007 German Championship.

Other candidates for the post of CEO were the Swiss management consultant Bernhard Heusler and Robert Schäfer, who had to go in the spring at Fortuna Dusseldorf as chief executive after there had been a dispute over the contract extension of coach Friedhelm Funkel. Jürgen Klinsmann, whose possible involvement in Stuttgart was publicly negotiated, had canceled his former club.

New sports director should be the current sports director Sven Mislintat. After the resignation of Wolfgang Dietrich in the club and the post of president is currently vacant. On November 7, the association's advisory board wants to name two candidates to stand for election before the general assembly on 15 December. One of them is the world champion of 1990 and VfB honorary captain Guido Buchwald.
