AC Milan have sacked coach Marco Giampaolo after losing four of their first seven games this season, the Serie A club said on Monday.
Giampaolo was appointed last June and his mission was to try to end the club's eight-year drought and return him to the Champions League after a six-year absence.
But the start of his tenure was poor and he was sacked despite the team ending its three-match losing streak by beating Genoa on Saturday.
"AC Milan announce that they have relieved Marco Giampaolo as coach of the first team and are grateful to Marco for the work he has done and wishes him all the best in his career," the club said in a statement.
