The meeting of the West Asian Basketball Federation, which was held today at the General Sports Federation in Damascus, after a lapse of years, resulted in the approval of holding two championships in Syria as part of the championships on its annual calendar.

In the press conference that followed the meeting, the Secretary General of the West Asian Federation Fouad Saliba pointed out that the meeting, which ended with the election of the President of the Iraqi Basketball Federation Hussein Al-Amidi as the President of the West Asian Federation, discussed many important issues for the development of basketball in the member federations as well as supporting and developing the Syrian basketball. It is decided to hold two championships for the under-16 and under-18 categories in the coming months, which will contribute to activating the international championships again in Syria.

The Regional Director of the International Basketball Association in Asia, Hagop Khajarian, expressed the Federation's readiness to support the Syrian basketball, especially that the meeting held today “a new day and a start for future meetings and activities in Syria”, while highlighting the importance of the Syrian basketball and the intention of the Federation to develop the level of referees and coaches through workshops Action to be played during upcoming tournaments.
