The German basketball champions Bayern Munich has surprisingly failed in the Cup knockout round. The Telekom Baskets Bonn defeated the big favorites and cup winners of the previous season 85:84 (53:40).
The Bonn had conceded just two days earlier, the largest home defeat in club history. Last Saturday, the five-time runner-up had lost 82: 114 against the Crailsheim Merlins. The disastrous performance was against Bayern Munich to see anything: After a strong first half led the Baskets shortly after the break with 15 points ahead.
Because in the baskets in the second half of the ball losses, crotters and failures piled up and the Munich stabilized, came the favorite again. In the final minute Martin Breunig saved with three transformed free throws but the victory for the outsider.
In the quarter-finals, Bonn face EWE Baskets Oldenburg.
