One day after his suspension with former club FC St. Pauli, Turkish footballer Cenk Sahin joined his former club in Turkey.
As Basaksehir announced, the 25-year-old returns for the time being to the Istanbul club. Already from 2012 to 2016 Sahin had played for the Turkish first division, where he now wants to keep fit. A change is only possible from January, when the next transfer period begins.
Basaksehir was Sahin's "home," said club president Göksel Gümüsdag: "These doors are always open to him." Sahin said the relationship with Gumusdag has always been a "father-son relationship".
GÖKSEL GÜMÜŞDAĞ: This is his home. These doors are always open for him.
VERENVER CENK ŞAHİN: Our relationship has always been as father-son with President Göksel Gümüşdağ. I am honored with his supportive call. https://t.co/wU1TULlk88
The third in the Süper Lig is close to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Gümüsdag is by marriage to Erdogans relationship. Last season Erdogan told the state broadcaster TRT: "Basaksehir was founded when I was mayor of the city."
At St. Pauli, Sahin had been released after a claim by the Ultras after posting an article on Instagram expressing his solidarity with the Turkish military offensive against Kurdish forces in northern Syria. "We are on the side of our heroic military and the armies, our prayers are with you!", The midfielder had written to a photo with Turkish flag.
