Football international Niklas Süle has torn the cross ligament in the Bundesliga match of Bayern Munich at FC Augsburg. This was confirmed by the club in a message on its website. The anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee is affected.
In a cruciate ligament tear players usually fall out for at least half a year. It will take less than eight months to reach the 2020 European Championship. Süle is under central coach Joachim Löw regular in central defense.
Süle will be operated on Sunday, according to the club announcement. This confirmed fears of Bayern coach Niko Kovac, who said after the game: "What I have already heard is that the cruciate ligament is damaged."
Süle had injured in a duel with Augsburg Florian Niederlechner and was hobbled from the field after a break from treatment. It is already the second cruciate ligament tear in Süle's career. In the 2014/2015 season he had to pause in the jersey of TSG Hoffenheim over half a year.
