Roger Federer celebrated his 1500th ATP Championship match with a 6-2 6-1 victory over German Peter Gojovchik in the first round of the Basel indoor tennis tournament in Switzerland today.
In his hometown, the 20-times Grand Slam champion and top seed did not need to make a big effort.
It was the 21st successive victory for the Swiss in the nine-time tournament in Basel and took advantage of every space on the field to hit 34 successful hits.
Germany's Jan Lenard Struff also qualified after a short 61-minute match with 21 assists to beat rising Serbian Miomir Kismanovic 6-4-6-2.
The second and third seed Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Titipas will start the first round tomorrow.
