Borussia Dortmund has lost for the first time in this Champions League season. At Inter, Lucien Favre's team lost 2-0 (0-1) without the illness of Marco Reus, while Lautaro Martínez scored the opening goal (22nd minute). A more relaxed final for the Italians prevented Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki, who parried a penalty from Martinez (82). Only Antonio Candreva scored the decision for Inter (89.).
Dortmund played without reus in an unfamiliar system - and was especially difficult in the offensive. Against the ball the BVB acted in a quintet about Mats Hummels, who led the team for the first time since 1250 days as captain on the place.
In order to overcome this defensive line, Inter handed in the first half but a ball Stefan de Vrij. Nico Schulz lifted the offside as left-back, Martínez took the ball in front of the gate with the chest and hit the lead (22).
Martínez's goal was the first goal of BVB in this Champions League season. In recent weeks, Dortmund had problems especially in the offensive, Reus' failure weighed so much the more difficult. For the first chance against Inter needed the BVB until shortly before the break. After a pass from Julian Brandt, Jadon Sancho pushed right into the penalty area and aimed from an acute angle for the far corner. Inters keeper Samir Handanovic deflected the flat shot to the side (45. + 1).
Bürki keeps Dortmund in the game
In the second half Dortmund was higher, Inter wanted to disrupt early game buildup. Although BVB won some balls already in the opposing half of the game, it still rarely brought to dangerous conclusions. Only when De Vrij faked a really central shot from Brandt, Handanovic had to parry a second time (64.). The biggest chance for Dortmund was Sancho. Thorgan Hazard had played the ball from the left side of the baseline into the backcourt, where the England international stumbled first and then could not pressure the ball (76 ').
A few minutes later, Hummels also seemed to stumble, only in the running duel with inter-talent Sebastiano Esposito. The 30-year-old Hummels fouled the 17-year-old Esposito in his own penalty area. Although Bürki held the penalty (82) and his team in the game, Dortmund was dangerous no more. Instead, Candreva scored after a counter-attack for Inter (89.).
Although Dortmund remains second in the group F table, Inter now has a tie in third. On 5 November (21 clock, live ticker SPIEGEL) receives the BVB Inter for the second leg.
