Relocated for demonstrations: Clásico just before Christmas

2019-10-23T11:43:39.932Z

Clásico, who has been relegated to numerous Catalonia rallies, has set a new date: it will not be until December when FC Barcelona and Real Madrid meet for the league.

Originally scheduled for October 26, Clásico between defending champions FC Barcelona and record champions Real Madrid will take place on 18 December. This was decided by the Arbitration Court of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The association follows the suggestion made by both clubs after the initial date of the game has been canceled. The league (LFP) had spoken out as a replacement for the 4th of December.

Barcelona is expected to witness major demonstrations on 26 October for condemning representatives of the Catalan separatists. In the meantime, an exchange of home law was also under discussion. This idea had been rejected, however.

Last Monday, Barcelona had demanded the pardon of the Catalan separatists, who had been sentenced to long prison terms for their role in the 2017 independence referendum. In a statement published on the club's website, goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen's club declared: "Prison is not the answer." Instead, Barca called for a "process of political dialogue and negotiation" to resolve the conflict.
