Borussia Mönchengladbach is after two games in the Europa League with two points on the last place in the table of Group J. In AS Roma, the Bundesliga leaders played in heavy rain 1: 1 (0: 1). Nicolo Zaniolo scored the opening goal for the Romans (32.minute), Lars Stindl equalized from the penalty spot in stoppage time (90 + 5).

In the parallel match of Group J Basaksehir won 1-0 (0-0) against Wolfsberger AC, whereby the Istanbul club (four points) passes Gladbach. Rome is first with five points ahead of Wolfsberger AC (four points).

The Bundesliga side started superior in the game. In the eighth minute the goal frame prevented a Gladbacher leadership when Florian Neuhaus played a free-kick flat in front of the goal, where Ramy Bensebaini hit the crossbar. This was followed by dangerous qualifications by Breel Embolo (9th), Neuhaus (11th) and Marcus Thuram (13th). Each time, the ball just slipped past the gate on the wet surface.

Instead, Rome took the lead. In a corner Stefan Lainer lost at the first post the duel with Zaniolo, who left Gladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer with his header no chance of defense. Out of the game, Rome had not been dangerous before. Shortly thereafter, the ball landed again in Gladbacher goal. Edin Dzeko's goal did not count, however, because the Bosnian had previously been offside (35 ').

Wrong decision Gladbach saves a point

In the second round, the game developed into a fight on the soaked lawn. Several times the ball lost surprisingly in pace or slipped further than expected. Substitute Alessandro Florenzi missed the chance to make his decision shortly before the end of the game (90 ').

In injury time the Gladbacher were awarded a penalty. The referee had seen a handball by Chris Smalling - the repetition showed clearly that the Englishman had been hit in the face. Lars Stindl came on and turned the penalty safely (90 + 5).
