La Liga: Spanish league appeals against Clasico appointment

2019-10-24T16:13:46.737Z

After agreeing on a replacement date for the match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, the league is now complaining. She fears losses in TV revenue.

The relocation of the Spanish football classic between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid on 18 December has a legal sequel. The league association LFP does not want to accept the postponement and appeal to a regular court and the Spanish Sport Council.

Due to political unrest in Catalonia and expected demonstrations against the condemnation of Catalan separatists, "El Clásico" was originally scheduled for October 26 at Camp Nou.

The new appointment had been approved on the proposal of the two clubs and the national association RFEF. The league had opted instead for the 4th of December, since the game should take place according to the regulations at the earliest possible date. In addition, the league referred to the airtime - because on 18 December, the first round of the national cup competition Copa del Rey should be scheduled.

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde called for a friendly solution last Tuesday. "I wish that common sense would prevail and that we would not be involved in this guerilla warfare between RFEF and La Liga," Valverde said.
