Never before had a football team in the highest English league achieved a higher away win. At Southampton FC, coached by ex-Leipziger Ralph Hasenhüttl, Leicester City won 9-0 (5-0). The goals were scored by Ben Chilwell (10th minute), Youri Tielemans (17), Ayoze Pérez (19, 39, 57), Jamie Vardy (45, 58, 90. + 4) and James Maddison (85 .).

Leicester left-back Chilwell took his lead in the tenth minute. Shortly thereafter, Southampton were outnumbered when Ryan Bertrand saw the red card (12) for an open-bottomed foul against Pérez. Then the debacle from Hasenhüttls point of view took its course, already at break led the guests 5: 0.

First, there had previously been a 9-0 in the Premier League, in 1995 by Manchester United against Ipswich Town. Champions Manchester City had previously celebrated their biggest ever win this season, but their 8-0 win over Watford took place in their own stadium.
