Bundesliga: Augsburg spoils Wolfsburg the leap to the top of the table

With a win VfL Wolfsburg would have become the league leaders of the Bundesliga. But against FC Augsburg it was enough despite a superior game play only to a draw.

VfL Wolfsburg has again missed the leap to the top of the table. In the Sunday match of the Bundesliga VfL came home only to a goalless draw against FC Augsburg. In a victory, the team of coach Oliver Glasner would have taken the lead in the table. But in a poor game of highlights, the hosts ran to the good FCA defense again and again.

The game started very lively. In the first few minutes Felix Klaus for Wolfsburg and then Ruben Vargas for Augsburg awarded the respective possible lead - free - because the two goalies Koubek and Pervan responded brilliantly. After that, however, the game fell asleep. Both teams made an effort, but little at the gates. The 0: 0 to the break was the logical consequence.

The picture hardly changed in the second half. Scoring chances were still rare, both teams went to the cause with great intensity, but the defensive ranks got the game getting better and better under control. Even the highly acclaimed Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst could hardly put on the stage this time. The team was noted to have changed to four positions after the European Cup on Thursday in Ghent.

Eight minutes from time the wolves cheered. But Joao Victor's goal was not recognized for offside after the video referee's intervention.

The draw takes Wolfsburg first place 3, Augsburg is now with seven points table second to last.
