DFB Cup: Schalke win thanks to Raman, Leverkusen with offside luck

For Schalke it was scarce in the end, Leverkusen benefited from the lack of video assistants. But both Bundesliga clubs are in the next round of the cup. Darmstadt fans, however, were disappointed late.

Bayer Leverkusen - SC Paderborn 1: 0 (1: 0)

A side goal has given Bayer Leverkusen victory in the second round of the DFB Cup against SC Paderborn. After a cross from Mitchell Weiser Karim Bellarabi put the ball in the center for Lucas Alario, who was offside at that point. The striker scored from close range to 1: 0 (25th minute), the goal counted wrongly.

The video assistant is used in the DFB Cup only from the quarter-finals. This benefited the Leverkusen, who were in the duel of the Bundesliga, however, the game-determining team. Paderborn could not be compensated.

Arminia Bielefeld - FC Schalke 04 2: 3 (0: 3)

Schalke 04 had almost lost a three-goal lead in Bielefeld, but prevailed in the end after a dramatic final phase. After the 0: 0 in Revierderby Schalke coach David Wagner had rebuilt his team on five positions. This paid off, all goals against second division Bielefeld scored players who were new to the grid. Alessandro Schöpf scored with a shot from 20 meters into the left corner of the goal to make it 1-0 for Schalke (15th).

The second goal resulted from a goalkeeper error: Stefan Ortega's kick went too flat and landed in the foot of Mark Uth, who sent Benito Raman with a straight pass into the Bielefeld penalty area. The attacker lifted the ball to 2: 0 over Ortega (25). A little later Schalke countered the Arminia, again met Raman on submission of Uth (32).

Fabian Klos (72.) and Cebio Soukou (77.) shot the gates to the Bielefeld connection. Even after the hosts came to great opportunities, but Voglsammer hit only the post (89th). In injury time Schalke's Jonjoe Kenny saved a shot from Anderson Lucoqui from the goal line (90 '+ 4').

SV Darmstadt 98 - Karlsruher SC 0: 1 (0: 0)

With a curious action Darmstadt 98 lured about 14,000 fans into the Böllenfalltor: All owners of a ticket promised the lilies a right of first refusal for a possible final ticket. The small cup dreams of the lilies destroyed Karlsruhe Philipp Hofmann but shortly before the end (85.). After a cross from Anton Fink he hit from close range to the victory of the KSC in the duel of the second division.
