MADRID: Real Madrid missed the chance to take the lead in the Primera Liga after a goalless draw at home to Real Betis on a difficult day for the three top clubs in which Barcelona and Atletico Madrid stumbled.
Real's most dangerous chances came in the second half when left-back Ferlan Mendy headed towards the goal, but despite having plenty of time to shoot, the Frenchman missed the opportunity, sparking outcry from the crowd.
Real are second on 22 points after 11 games with leaders Barcelona, who lost 3-1 away to Levante earlier in the day.
Atletico Madrid, who have played one game more than their rivals, have 21 points in third place after a 1-1 draw at fourth-placed Sevilla with 14 points and Betis are 13.
