2019-11-02T11:04:52.041Z

As a favorite England went into the final of the Rugby World Cup in Japan. With one injury, however, the disaster took its course after only three minutes. South Africa may now call itself a shared record world champion.

South Africa has secured its third rugby world title. The "Springboks" beat in the final of the World Cup in Japan, the English selection 32:12 (12: 6). Especially in the standard situations, the South Africans dominated the game. With the third triumph at a World Cup South Africa is now next to New Zealand record world champion. After a total of six successful penalties by Handré Pollard Makazole Mapimpi scored the first South African attempt in a World Cup final ever (66th). Cheslin Kolbe decided the game with a solo run (74.).

For the English, the game started badly: After less than three minutes, England's pillar Kyle Sinckler collided in a tackle with his teammate Maro Itoje so unhappily that he apparently remained unconscious in the field. Although he was able to leave the field on his own after a brief interruption of treatment, the finale for him was finished early. In rugby, players are taken out of the game on suspicion of a head injury in order to rule out possible long-term injuries as far as possible.

Pollard too strong

After the failure of Sinckler, the English had big problems because South Africa dominated the crowds. England and South Africa are considered to be the world's toughest and toughest teams in the world, with a slight advantage to the English before the match.

At 3: 6, Eddie Jones's team came close to the South African end zone, but the defensive "Springboks" resisted the three-minute attack attempts. England were only penalized by Owen Farrell to equalize (35 '). However, before the break, South Africa's Pollard shot his team with two more penalties for a comfortable first lead (39th, 43rd).

In the second half, the English fought their way into the match and especially into the crowd. After Farrell's penalty kick to 9:15 (52.), South Africa suddenly seemed to be jittering, but Farrell missed another three-point chance a short time later (55 '). As a result, England did not manage to reduce the six-point deficit against the South African's strong defense. With a total of six successful penalties South Africa's connecting half Handré Pollard was too strong.

Instead, South Africa's Mapimpi scored after a great combination with Lukhanyo Am's first try in a World Cup final in South African rugby history (66 '). Kolbe, the 1.71-meter winger, made the decision by passing several opponents on the right-hand side and putting the ball in the end zone (74 ').
