Victory over Hertha: Union wins first Berlin derby in the Bundesliga for 42 years

For the first time in 42 years, two Berlin teams met again in the Bundesliga. The decision was awarded by penalty, previously the game had to be interrupted because of pyrotechnics.

Union Berlin has prevailed in the first Berlin derby in the Bundesliga since the 1976/1977 season against Hertha BSC. The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute in the 1-0 (0-0). Dedryck Boyata had previously hit Christian Gentner with a free-kick in the box. Hertha goalkeeper Rune Jarstein still reached the ball but could not fend off Sebastian Polter's shot.

Due to the success against city rivals Union has with ten points in 13th place only one point behind Hertha, which is with eleven points in eleventh place.
