The junior performance center of FC Bayern has temporarily get along without his head: Hermann Gerland returns to the coaching bench of the German record champions. The 65-year-old will be co-coach of Hansi Flick for the upcoming tasks. For the first time Gerland assists on Wednesday in Champions League duel against Olympiacos Piraeus (18:55, Liveticker SPIEGEL ONLINE).

The Munich had separated on Sunday after the 1: 5 defeat in the Bundesliga against Eintracht Frankfurt by Niko Kovac. His brother and assistant Robert Kovac also had to go with him. Also Hansi Flick belonged since this season to the coaching team of Kovac. The former assistant coach of the German national coach Joachim Loew, however, was promoted temporarily to head coach after the separation from Kovac.

Gerland has been sports director of the young talent center of Bavaria since 2017. But the "Tiger" also has experience at Bayern Bank: In the past, he was already assistant coach under Jupp Heynckes, Louis van Gaal, Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola.
