Robert Enke: German football on the tenth anniversary of death with a minute of silence

With a minute's silence, German football wants to commemorate the death of Robert Enke on 10 November 2009 on Sunday. As part of the campaign #gedENKEminute, to which the German Football Association and the Robert Enke Foundation called with the support of the German Football League, should not only be remembered at the football matches on Sunday to the people and athletes Robert Enke, but especially for Awareness of depression and existing services.

As many clubs as possible, from the Bundesliga to the Kreisliga, should take part in the action - also in the games on Friday and Saturday. Enke was in his professional career goalkeeper of the German national team and was in the club, among others, at Hannover 96, Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Barcelona under contract.

"Together with the Robert-Enke-Foundation and the DFL we quickly agreed that on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the death of Robert Enke in the whole of German football should be sent a strong signal.Everyone who feels oppressed or hopeless, must seek help can - without fear of exclusion or a career break, "said DFB President Fritz Keller in a statement. "My special thanks to Teresa Enke for her great commitment."

The then national goalkeeper Robert Enke suffered from the disease depression and had committed suicide on 10 November 2009. "This tragic loss has hit us hard, Robert was not only an outstanding goalkeeper and great international, but a loveable person who has enriched our team," said DFB Director Oliver Bierhoff. "The topic of depression has since been heard much more." On the day of Enke's death, the national team had been gathered to prepare for an international match against Chile.
