Defending champions Liverpool are just one step away from qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages after a 2-1 win over Belgian Genk in Anfield today.

Liverpool are top of Group E with nine points after involving several replacements as they face a Premier League clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

Liverpool, who started the game without Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, took the lead in the 14th minute through Jorginho Finalem from close range after a pass from James Milner.

Jurgen Klopp squandered several chances to boost the lead but was penalized four minutes before the break when Ali Mwabana met features from a corner by Bryan Henin and put the ball into the net with a superb header.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain restored the lead in the 53rd minute with a superb pass from Mohamed Salah on the edge of the area and a powerful shot into the net.
