Champions League: Chelsea draw dramatic draw against Ajax Amsterdam


Eight goals, two relegations, no winner: Chelsea FC and Ajax Amsterdam have delivered a thrilling duel in the Champions League. By contrast, Liverpool FC won easily.

Chelsea FC - Ajax Amsterdam 4: 4 (1: 3)

Chelsea have played a dramatic game in the Champions League against Ajax Amsterdam. For a long time it looked like a safe victory for the Dutch, they had even led 4: 1 in the meantime. But when Daley Blind and Joël Veltman each conceded a relegation in the 68th minute, the game tipped final.

Chelsea's Jorginho scored two penalties (4 th minute / 71st), Cesar Azpilicueta (63 th) and Reece James (74 th) scored for the English Premier League team. Quincy Promes (20.) and Donny van de Beek (55.) scored at Ajax, Tammy Abraham (2.) and Keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga (35.) scored with their own goals.

In the Group H table, Ajax, Chelsea and Valencia CF (all seven points) now tie in first three places. Last of the group is Lille with a point.

Liverpool FC - KRC Genk 2: 1 (1: 1)

Liverpool have taken another step towards the round of 16 and also won the second leg against Belgian champions KRC Genk. Goals for the Reds were Georginio Wijnaldum (14) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (53). After that, the defending champion played dominant, but allowed the interim equalizer by Genks Mbwana Samatta (41) to.

SSC Napoli - RB Salzburg 1: 1 (1: 1)

Napoli did not qualify for a draw against Salzburg, but the Italians, who finished second in Group E (eight points), still have a good chance of reaching the Round of 16. Liverpool leads the group with one more point.

As in the first leg met for the Austrians Erlin Haaland after a penalty (10). The Norwegian leads the top scorer list of the premier class with now eight goals. The equalizer was hit by Hirving Lozano (43 ') following a cross from Lorenzo Insigne. Due to the draw, the knockout phase is increasingly unlikely for Salzburg, although the club started out as outsiders in a tough group anyway. Salzburg is four points after the fourth matchday.
