Due to ongoing unrest in Chile, the final of the Copa Libertadores has been relocated to the Peruvian capital Lima - to "protect players and spectators," as the South American Football Association Conmebol announced.
Actually, the final of the South American football premier class between River Plate Buenos Aires and Flamengo Río de Janeiro should have been held on November 23 in Chile's capital Santiago de Chile.
The Chilean federation ANFP also canceled an international match against Bolivia on 15 November. "The situation is complicated in both countries, we have agreed to organize a friendly match with them (Bolivia) soon," said ANFP chairman Sebastián Moreno.
In Chile, there have been protests critical of the government for around three weeks, which were initially directed against subway prices, but have since expanded to inequality and exploding costs. The demonstrators demand the resignation of Conservative President Sebastián Piñera.
According to the prosecution, more than 20 people have been killed in the protests so far. The riots also canceled the hosting of the next World Climate Change Conference in December and the Asia-Pacific Summit in November.
