In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, two fans of FC Celtic from Glasgow were injured by knife wounds. This was reported by several media, including "BBC" and the "Gazetta dello Sport". The two men were therefore treated in the hospital, it had no mortal danger. The police determine, suspected to be a seven to eight-member group Lazio-Ultras.
The Celtic fans are said to have been outside a downtown Irish pub when several hoodlums appeared and attacked the Scots. Two men suffered stab wounds on their legs.
In another incident, a bar was attacked by a group. The attackers tried to break the locked windows and doors with missiles. Celtic fans were in the pub. One of them told the BBC that they had not sung or otherwise attracted attention, that they had just been drinking in peace: "But this group was definitely on the hunt for Celtic fans."
From the attack on the bar video recordings circulate in the social networks. Meanwhile, the knife attack in front of the Irish pub confirmed Celtic in a statement.
Celtic can confirm that 2 fans have been injured after being stabbed last night. Both are now in hospital and want to receive every support from the Club and the British Consulate in Rome. Again we would strongly advise supporters to follow all the instructions issued by the club.
- Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) November 7, 2019Already in the run-up to violent conflicts around the second leg between Celtic and Lazio in Rome (18.55 clock, live ticker SPIEGEL, TV: Dazn) had been feared. At the first leg in Glasgow, the Celtic fan-curve held a banner that showed the former Italian dictator and Adolf Hitler's ally Benito Mussolini hanging upside down, saying, "Follow your leader!" Previously, Lazio fans had marched through the Glasgow city center and had shown the Hitler salute.
Some groups in the Lazio Annex are considered particularly violent and have repeatedly identified themselves as fascists in the past. Despite the high potential for conflict, up to 9,000 Scottish fans have been expected to attend the Roman Olympic Stadium. Celtic published a guide on their website at noon to ensure the safety of their fans. "Under no circumstances" fans should travel alone to the stadium.
