VfL Wolfsburg suffered a setback in the run-up to the knockout stages of the Europa League and despite the lead, conceded the third defeat in nine days. The team of coach Oliver Glasner defeated the KAA Gent 1: 3 (1: 0). The VfL is now three points behind the Belgians in Group I, but can still reach the second place needed to progress on their own.
For the Lower Saxony in the games at PFK Olexandrija and against the AS St. Étienne, however, must increase significantly. As in the 1: 6 in the DFB Cup against RB Leipzig and 0: 3 in the Bundesliga in Dortmund, the VfL presented mostly harmless and vulnerable on the defensive.

European League record winner Sevilla FC qualified for the semi-finals of the top 32 teams confidently. The team of former Spanish national coach Julen Lopetegui celebrated their fourth victory in Group A's fourth game in a 5-2 (4-0) win over F91 Dudelange from Luxembourg. Munir El Haddadi (27., 33., 67.) came in threes and Munas Dabbur (17., 36.). For Dabbur, who came from Salzburg in the summer, they were the first goals for Sevilla.
In the group's second game, coach Thomas Doll beat Apar Nikosia 2-1 (1-0) thanks to a late 88th-minute strike by Nicholas Ioannou against Qarabag Agdam. Nicosia (4 points) moved into second place, just ahead of Qarabag (4) and Dudelange (3).
