Jürgen Klinsmann returns to the Bundesliga and gets a seat on the supervisory board of Hertha BSC. A report of the "Bild" newspaper confirmed Klinsmann consultant Roland Eitel the German Press Agency. Investor Lars Windhorst, who owns 49.9 percent of Hertha KGaA via his company Tennor from Friday, is said to have paved the way for the former national coach.
According to the report, Windhorst and Klinsmann will have their first joint public appearance as Hertha executives at the Olympiastadion on Saturday against RB Leipzig. Hertha BSC did not want to comment on the personality in the evening.
Klinsmann has been a club member of Hertha for years, since his father, who grew up in Eberswalde, was Siegfried Fan of the club. Klinsmann's son Jonathan played with Hertha from 2017 to 2019; he stood in a game in the goal of the professionals. He is currently under contract with FC St. Gallen in Switzerland.
For Windhorst's shares, the investor has four seats in the nine-member Supervisory Board. One of them will now be given to Klinsmann, whom Windhorst had met in Berlin some time ago. In the future, the 55-year-old will supervise the work of Hertha Managing Directors Michael Preetz and Ingo Schiller.
Klinsmann had been dismissed in April 2009 after not even a season as Bayern coach and had turned the Bundesliga his back. From July 2011 to November 2016, the former striker was USA national coach. Most recently, he was considered a candidate for the post of chief executive officer at second division VfB Stuttgart.
