A few days before the end of his presidency at Bayern Uli Hoeneß once again uses all the channels to make his voice heard. On Saturday, he was happy in front of cameras and microphones about a "dreamlike" farewell match of his club, which had won 4-0 against Borussia Dortmund in their home stadium.
In the evening, the still-president then confirmed in the ZDF sports studio that recent coach Niko Kovac had lost the backing in the team. And only a few hours later, he called angrily in the Sport1 talk show double pass to defend the publicly much-criticized sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
The opposite of good is good intentions
"What is on your mind, Uli," moderator Thomas Helmer asked sensitively. "Hasan did a good job this year, and I must point out that the transfers of Pavard, Hernandez, and not least Davies, have grown on his own," Hoeneß went on to say. Be happy about these "sensational transfers".
"Especially in the last few weeks, in all these decisions that have been made, he was fully integrated and has made a very significant contribution and with which we will have a lot of fun at Bayern," concluded Hoeneß his plea. The decision on Salihamidzic 'appointment as Sport Board will be made by the Supervisory Board on Monday. Whether Hoeneß increases the respect for the performance of his sports director with such actions, however, is questionable.
Kahn also decides on new coach
This call lined up in the recent notable appearances of the Bayern-maker. There was the memorable farewell press conference ("I've done great"), the misplaced abusive conference ("Is it still possible?") A year ago. And now this anecdote. Hoeneß will no longer run for president at the General Assembly on November 15 (read more about the eternal Hoeness and his era at Bayern).
Important part of this new beginning: The answer to the trainer question. And Oliver Kahn, who will become a member of the board of directors in January and succeeds Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 2022, will also have a say.
