Dark horizontal stripes on a white background, black-red-golden sleeves: The German national football team wants to compete in the European Championship next year.



In classic white with thin, black horizontal stripes, the German national football team wants to aim for the European title next summer. DFB sponsor Adidas and the German Football Association presented the new jersey for the international match years 2020 and 2021. For the first time, the shirt will be worn by national coach Joachim Löw in the European Championship qualifier on Saturday in Mönchengladbach against Belarus (20.45, TV: RTL Liveticker SPIEGEL ONLINE).

The jersey is not a bargain, on the contrary: In the Adidas store, the version "Authentic" costs 129.95 euros. A cheaper option is to have 89.95 euros. Who wants to flock the dress must invest another 15 euros.

The jersey is based on the tradition of white Germany shirts. The horizontal stripes are held in brushstroke optics as so-called pinstripes. On the back is broken with the stripe optics, the back remains largely white.

"German flag again clearer in appearance"

Above the DFB crest, the four black World Champion stars are placed for the title wins in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014. Both sleeves end in black, red and gold stripes. To the jersey players wear black pants and white socks. The goalkeepers play in red jerseys.

DFB director Oliver Bierhoff said that he was particularly pleased "that we have taken the German flag again more clearly in our appearance."

"The dynamic color gradient of the cuff stands for diversity in the Federal Republic, for players and fans with different roots," it said in a statement of the sporting goods manufacturer.
