European Championship qualifier: Turkey takes down the European Championship

Against Iceland, Turkey has taken the last necessary point to play next year at the European Championship. This also benefited France.



Turkey has qualified for the European Football Championship 2020 by drawing against Iceland. On the penultimate matchday of qualifying Group H, the Turkish side drew 0-0 in favor of Iceland and are now 20 points away from the first two places.

Iceland are third with 16 points and can no longer overtake the runner-up France due to the lost direct comparison. The French are so qualified before the game on Thursday evening against Moldova sure for the European Championship. In the last two group matches, Turkey and France are still group winners.

Turkey tried to take the game against Iceland itself in the hand. In the 30th minute striker Burak Yilmaz had the biggest chance of the first half, but his header flew from eleven meters just over the goal.

In the second half, the striker fell again, a flank from the right side slipped off and landed on the crossbar (54). Hördur Magnussen had the biggest opportunity in Iceland, but Mert Günok cleared the line (82). In injury time Yuzuf Yazici also hit the crossbar for Turkey (90. + 1), it remained in the draw.

No opportunity for military jubilation
