Defending champion Alexander Zverev reached the semi-finals at the ATP finals in London. The 22-year-old defeated Russia's Daniil Medvedev 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 4) in the final round of the preliminary round, beating world number one Rafael Nadal from second place in the "Andre Agassi" table. Nadal had prevailed 6: 7 (4: 7), 6: 4, 7: 5 against Stefanos Tsitsipas before.
In the semifinals on Saturday (21 clock, TV: Sky) Zverev meets the Austrian Dominic Thiem. The second semi-final will be played on Saturday by Tsitsipas against Roger Federer (3pm).
Zverev had previously won four out of five matches against Medvedev, but lost significantly in their last encounter in the final of the ATP tournament in Shanghai in mid-October. However, a break at the start gave the German an early lead this time. Zverev served strong, barely settled on open rallies and decided already after 34 minutes the first set for themselves.
The second round was similar: Zverev was low on his serve, granted Medvedev not a single chance to break and waited patiently for his options. This was only in the tiebreak, where Zverev finished after 1:18 hours the match with an ace.
