Hoeneß successor Herbert Hainer: No man for the change

2019-11-15T15:49:59.652Z

Herbert Hainer inherits Uli Hoeness as president at Bayern. Others will be responsible for the loud sounds in the future. Questions and answers about the new strong man in the club.

His choice is still pending, but it is considered a matter of form: When in the evening at the annual general meeting of FC Bayern München Uli Hoeneß cedes Herbert Hainer is elected the new president and chairman of the Supervisory Board until 2022. Hainer becomes a new strong man in the club next to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Who is Herbert Hainer?

The 65-year-old was born in Dingolfing in Lower Bavaria, the son of a butcher - as Hoeneß. At age 33, he started as a sales director at sporting goods company Adidas, working his way up to CEO. Hainer retained the post for nearly a decade and a half until 2016. One of his first acts as chief executive officer was to acquire shares in FC Bayern and extend the supplier and sponsor contract with the club. Today, Adidas (just like Allianz and Audi) holds 8.33 percent of FC Bayern München AG.

Under Hainer's leadership, Adidas experienced a boom, including savings from job losses and sponsorship deals with Fifa, associations such as the DFB and top clubs like Bayern. Hainer is well connected in business and sports.

When FC Bayern Hainer is not a freshman. Already at times as Adidas boss, he had taken a seat on the board; Most recently, he was Deputy Chairman behind Hoeneß. In 2014, Hainer had transitional chairmanship once, after Hoeneß had resigned in the course of his tax evasion process from his post.

Why is he receiving the post?

Hoeneß himself recommended Hainer as his successor. The relevant body followed this proposal. There is no opponent.

Hainer is considered a close Hoeneß confidant. The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" writes that Hainer was one of the first visitors after Hoeneß had begun his prison sentence. Hainer himself told the Bayern member magazine "51" about his relationship with Hoeneß: "When our daughter died, he was the first to call and ask how he can help." It is not important who laughs with you, if it is you There you have lots of friends, the one thing that matters is who weeps when you feel bad. "

How much is Hainer von Hoeneß emancipated?

"Although we are friends, but that does not mean that we are always on each topic of the same opinion," says Hainer, and that he "will certainly make their own decisions."

But Hainer also says that it would be "wise of me to listen to his advice." And: "Uli Hoeness is not out of the world, he lives just 40 kilometers away from the Säbener Straße.The mobile phone networks at the Tegernsee are intact - and I've already found out in years how I can get him." It is safe to assume that the club is facing no upheaval emanating from Hainer.

What will happen to the department attack?

It looks like it's getting quieter. He would "tend to hold back," said Hainer the "SZ", and he could "not imagine that I comment on the respective game publicly every Saturday." Only if he "feels that I have to say something will I do that."

Presumably, however, the public much better known Oliver Kahn in the future Bavaria mouthpiece, Hainer would then take a more restrained role. Kahn will be incorporated from 2020 at FC Bayern, end of 2021 he is to succeed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as chairman of the board. Especially as yet sports director Hasan Salihamidzic to be promoted to sports director next year. Bayern have then "enough people with high football sense," as Hainer says.

Of course, Uli Hoeness can still turn itself on, if it does not run at Bayern, as he imagines. The club will probably stay forever from Hoeneß's perspective. A call in a football talk round would be quick. Thank the good mobile phone network at Tegernsee.
