The first division match between Villarreal and Atlético Madrid may not take place in Miami on 6 December, against the intent of the Spanish professional football league. The football association RFEF rejects league games abroad, however, La Liga has filed a complaint. However, this will not be negotiated until next February. For the game Villarreal vs Atlético, the Commercial Court in Madrid now rejected a preliminary injunction.
The match of the 16th day of the match will take place after the judgment published on Friday but now in the Villarreal Stadium La Cerámica on the stage. "The League respects this decision," it said in an official statement from the League, but: "An official game abroad is part of a long-term LaLiga strategy for international growth."
La Liga boss asked to resign
The association, however, demanded "the deposition or immediate resignation" of La Liga boss Javier Tebas. He has already violated the rules of the RFEF and the World Federation Fifa several times. In court he has already suffered several bankruptcies. With his "hostile and irresponsible action" Tebas inflict damage on football and clubs in Spain.
This is the second time that the League's plans to host a Spanish duel in Miami have failed. Last season, FC Girona and FC Barcelona should play their second round match in Florida.
La Liga and RFEF have been in conflict since 2018. The league then signed a 15-year deal with US entertainment company Relevent, which plans to play a regular season game each year in North America.
