Freestyle swimmer Sarah Köhler has set a world record over 1500 meters at the German Short Track Championships in Berlin. The 25-year-old beat after 15: 18.01 minutes and was 1.7 seconds faster than the Spaniard Mireia Belmonte at its best in 2014.
Köhler once again demonstrated its exceptional form eight months before the Tokyo Olympics. At the World Championships on the Langbahn she had won over 1500 meters of silver this summer and celebrated the title with the 4 x 1.25 kilometer relay in open water.
In her world record competition, she was more than 30 seconds faster than the second-placed Leonie Beck (15: 49.69 minutes). Third was Celine Rieder (15: 55.51).
Shortly before his girlfriend's best, double world champion Florian Wellbrock set a national record. The 22-year-old freestyle swimmer improved Florian Vogel's record of 1.4 seconds in the 800-meter race in 7: 32.04.
In his victory, he was almost four seconds faster than the second-placed Sven Schwarz. Third place went to Henning Mühlleitner.
