Formula 1 in Brazil: Max Verstappen wins in Brazil

2019-11-17T19:10:55.242Z

In Formula 1, boredom comes? No, at least not at the Brazilian Grand Prix. After a safety car phase, the field moved back together before Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc collided.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has won the Brazilian Grand Prix. Starting from pole position, the Dutchman drove for his third win of the season and jumped in third place in the drivers' championship. Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly finished second with only 62 hundredths of a second ahead of the already established World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

The Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, in his 100th race for Ferrari, and Charles Leclerc collided in the direct duel shortly before the end and retired. After an overtaking maneuver by Leclerc Vettel countered, in a duel touched the two Ferraris and slit each other on the tires.

Verstappen's team-mate Alexander Albon almost went on the podium, but in a duel with Hamilton he turned and fell back to 14th place. The race director checked the scene after the race, with the result still open.

Unspectacular race, until the 52nd round

It was the end of an unspectacular race. Until the 52nd lap, the leaders clocked through various pit stop strategies, overtaking maneuvers, there were almost none. Verstappen led Hamilton and Vettel. However, then Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas fell out with engine problems and the safety car came on the track.

Five laps later, the entire field had come together, after a pit stop by Verstappen took over Hamilton the lead. He lost it after the flying restart again to the Dutchman, who had the faster tires. While Verstappen drove towards his third win of the season, Albon took advantage of the chaos to advance past Vettel to third place. Albon had taken over the Red Bull cockpit during the season of Pierre Gasly, who could not meet the high expectations on the side of Verstappen.

And of course Gasly benefited from the collision of Albon and Hamilton. On the final stretch, the World Champion almost caught the Frenchman's Toro Rosso, but Gasly saved his best career spot.
