For the 23-year-old Waldschmidt it was the third assignment in the DFB team. The striker has a chance to be called into the squad for the Euro 2020 despite the few international matches. However, when he can play again after the injury is unclear.

In the current season, Waldschmidt scored four goals in ten games for SC Freiburg and prepared a goal. At the U21 European Championship last June Waldschmidt was with the DFB team vice-European champion, he scored seven goals in five games and was the top scorer of the tournament.
