LONDON (Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur have named Jose Mourinho as their new coach on a contract until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
"We now have one of the most successful football coaches," Tottenham president Daniel Levy said in a statement on the club's website. "We believe it will bring energy and confidence to the team."
Tottenham, currently 14th in the league, will be the third English club led by Mourinho, who has won three Premier League titles with Chelsea in two different terms.
The 56-year-old Portuguese is back in training for the first time since he was sacked from Manchester United in December 2018 and will succeed Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked by Tottenham on Wednesday.
