Portuguese football star coach José Mourinho expressed surprise at his first press conference as coach of Tottenham Hotspur. "I realized I made mistakes," Mourinho said. "I will not make the same mistakes again, I will make new mistakes, but not the same ones." The 56-year-old, former coach of Chelsea FC and Manchester United did not reveal, however, which mistakes he meant.
He is "humble enough to analyze my career - not just the last year, but the whole, the development, the problems and the solutions, and not to blame anyone."
Mourinho said his almost one year break after his split from ManUnited in December 2018 did him good. "A break was positive for me," he explained. "That was the first summer I did not work in." However, during the pre-season preparations, he felt "a bit baffled" without a job, admitted the new Tottenham coach, who makes his debut on the bench at West Ham United on Saturday and heads to the Champions League on 11 December Bayern plays.
Mourinho praised his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino, who is considered by Bayern as a candidate for coaching. He also stressed that he has no plans to become active in the winter transfer market, although the Spurs in the Premier League table currently only ranked 14th. "This is the best gift for me, I do not need new players," he said. "We can not win the Premier League this season, but we can win them next season. (I say) will not, but can."
