The American Deontay Wilder has also won the rematch against Luis Ortiz. Now the world champion wants to unite all heavyweight belts and rise to the big ones.

Deontay Wilder remains undefeated WBC Heavyweight Champion. The 34-year-old American defeated his Cuban challenger Luis Ortiz by Ko after 2:45 minutes in the seventh round. It was already the second meeting of the two boxers. The first fight in March 2018 Wilder had prematurely decided for himself.

The world champion had begun very restrained and showed little offensive action in the first half of the match. Instead, Ortiz came through with some hard left hooks that seemed to impress Wilder. But then the "Bronze Bomber" decided the duel with his first really hard hit.

Shortly before the end of the seventh round Wilder put his opponent on the ropes, prepared the attack with the left hand guide and stretched Ortiz with one right to the temple. The Cuban immediately went down and was counted by referee Kenny Bayless. For Wilder it was the 42nd win in 43rd professional fight, he won 41 fights by knockout.

"Ortiz is very strong, he is one of the best heavyweights in the world," said Wilder after the fight. "I had to play something with him and move a lot to get in the right distance." He wished that other heavyweights Ortiz would also have a chance and compete against him so that the Cuban could earn money to provide for his family. Both Ortiz and Wilder have started professional boxing to earn money for the medical treatment of their daughters, each born with a genetic defect.

Wilder's next goals

Looking to his next fights, Wilder said he was looking forward to the rematch against Tyson Fury. The first clash between the two in December 2018 ended in a draw. The rematch is scheduled for February 2020. Wilder then wants to unite the heavyweight title. "We only need one world champion," he said. "The heavyweight is too small for so many belts, we need a face, a big name, and that name is Deontay Wilder."

Wilder holds the world title of World Boxing Council (WBC). World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) belts are at stake on December 7 when Andy Ruiz jr. in Saudi Arabia to fight against Anthony Joshua. Ruiz had surprisingly knocked out Joshua in June and taken the titles.

A fight between the winners of the duels between Ruiz and Joshua, as well as Wilder and Fury, in which all relevant championship belts are at stake, could take place in the summer of 2020.
