Less than ten goals conceded, many chances awarded: Germany's handball women have shown their strong success against Australia strengths and weaknesses before the really tough World Cup games.

The German handball women have confidently celebrated the second victory in the second game at the World Cup in Japan. The team of coach Henk Groener won against outsiders Australia 34: 8 (16: 4) and put on the opening win against Brazil (30:24) an optimal start in the difficult group B preliminary round.

Best throwers for the team of national coach Henk Groener were in Yamaga Antje Lauenroth with six goals as well as Jenny Behrend and Ina Grossmann with five hits each.

The victory could have been even higher, the German team came in 52 throws, however, only on a pass rate of 65 percent. Already against Brazil the chances utilization was only 55 per cent of transformed litters. In the match against the South Americans, especially goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle made with her total of 13 parades for the final clear success.

As few goals as last in 1993

This time, their representative Isabell Roch was allowed to play the game for long stretches - she came on eleven parades (73 percent defense) against Australians with low scores. The DHB selection conceded at the end of the least goals in a German World Cup match since the 30: 8 against Angola in 1993. At that time the team was even world champion, in this final round, however, Germany is clearly outsiders. (Read more about the German World Cup chances here.)

The next task awaits Denmark on Tuesday, which turned 80% of its throws in its first group game against Australia (37:12). Other preliminary round opponents of the German team are South Korea and defending champion France. The World and European champion came to Brazil only on 19:19 and is already under pressure after the false start against South Korea (27:29).

In Japan, Germany is particularly interested in the Olympics participation in 2020: In order to be part of a qualifying tournament for Tokyo, the European Championship tithe must reach a place among the top seven at the World Cup.
