Often played well, but scored too little: Everton FC has pulled the consequences of only 14 points in 15 season games and ended the collaboration with coach Marco Silva. This was announced by the club. Previously, the team had lost on Wednesday evening in the Merseyside derby against local rivals Liverpool FC 2: 5 and so the third defeat in the series cashed.
As interim coach, the club relies on Duncan Ferguson. The former Scottish international and Everton professional previously worked as an assistant coach. At the same time, they wanted to present a new coach "as quickly as possible" to fill the position on a long-term basis.
Silva had taken over the coaching staff at Everton at the beginning of the season 18/19. Previously, the Portuguese coached Hull City and Watford in England. In his first season Silva led the "Toffees" to eighth place. This season, Everton are in eighth place in the Premier League, one point behind a non-relegation zone and far behind their own ambitions.
