The President of the Iraqi Basketball Federation, Dr. Hussein Al-Amidi confirmed the importance of participating in the West Asian Women's U-16 Championship hosted by Al-Faihaa Hall in Damascus until the tenth of this month, with the participation of the Syrian and Lebanon teams, as it marks the beginning of the return of international championships again to the Syrian basketball halls.

Al-Amidi said in a statement to the delegate of Sana Sports upon the arrival of the Iraqi national team to Damascus International Airport today, "We are happy to have been in the Syrian basketball courts that have met during previous years in various Arab and Asian championships," expressing at the same time the Iraqi teams' willingness to participate in all the tournaments that will be held in Syria later.

For his part, Iraqi team coach Rizgar Muhammad Raouf explained the importance of the championship for his team because it gives the players more skill by contacting other players ’players, which contributes to developing the technical level, especially as the team is in the process of preparation within this category.

The players of the Iraqi team expressed their willingness to participate in the championship after extensive preparations they made during the preparation period to provide good performance on the one hand and benefit from the experience of the rest of the players, especially the players of the Syrian team.

The head of the Syrian Basketball Federation, Jalal Naqrash, stressed the importance of the championship, which constitutes a new stage for the Syrian basketball, as it is a gateway to return to international competitions again, as it contributes to raising the level of our players and our players, noting that our team is preparing well for the championship through a closed training camp that witnessed intensive training sessions.

The championship will open at 4:30 tomorrow, with our team to meet its Iraqi counterpart at six o'clock. Lebanon will face its Iraqi counterpart Monday at six o'clock and the tournament will end with our team meeting with its Lebanese counterpart on Tuesday at the same time.

The West Asian Basketball Federation had held its meeting at the headquarters of the General Sports Federation in Damascus last October, and the Syrian basketball support and development was discussed, where it was decided to establish two championships, one of which will be held tomorrow and the second for the under-18 category for males in February, which will contribute to activating international championships again in Syria .
