Ajax Amsterdam - Valencia CF 0: 1 (0: 1)

For Ajax Amsterdam, semi-finalists of the past Champions League season, the situation before the game against Valencia was clear: a draw would be enough for the Dutch champions to qualify for the knockout stages starting at the end of February.

A comfortable starting position, which was shaken in the 18th minute: Ferrán Torres fit the ball from the right half of the field perfectly into the foot of Rodrigo Moreno, who was able to overcome Ajax goalkeeper André Onana from close range - the 1: 0 for the guests! The lead for the eighth of the Primera División at halftime was well deserved; the Champions League finalists of 2000 and 2001 had only allowed an Ajax shot at their own goal.

FC Valencia are surprisingly in the second round

In the second half Ajax increased the pressure, but neither the increased possession of the ball nor the extremely offensively acting full-backs initially led to scoring chances. That changed in the 67th minute, when Hakim Ziyech could not accommodate the ball from seven meters in the gate. One minute later, Noa Lang narrowly missed the 1-1 draw.

Ajax now attacked angrily but unstructured. Numerous fouls caused a rush, referee Clément Turpin had to show the ball six times between the 79th and 86th minute. The last chance for Ajax missed Lisandro Martínez from a distance (90.). In injury time, Valencia's Gabriel Paulista saw a red card after being assaulted (93 '). Two minutes later was the end and with Ajax the semi-finalist of the preseason eliminated.

FC Valencia are going into the knockout round draw on 16 December as the group winners, and Ajax will play in the Europa League this spring.

Chelsea vs Lille OSC 2: 1 (2: 0)

Just one point had the French representative Lille OSC fetched in the first five group games and also at Chelsea FC added no further. The Blues won their home game at Stamford Bridge 2: 1 (2: 0) and have qualified as the second in Group H for the second round.

Tammy Abraham provided early reassurance on the blues

After the last six home games in the Champions League without success, the hosts began vigorously: Tammy Abraham (5th minute), Christian Pulisic (10th), Emerson (15th) and N'Golo Kanté (17th) awarded the first opportunities. The consistent opening goal fell in the 19th minute: The English national striker Abraham met after preparation by Willian.

César Azpilicueta came home from a free-kick from the right-hand side, beating the ball with a header from close range. Chelsea controlled from then on the game, the guests were harmless without the ex-Munich Renato Sanches and top scorer Victor Osimhen on the grid.

From nowhere then the connecting hit: Jonathan Bamba returns from the left wing on Loic Rémy, who finished under the crossbar (78.). But more should not jump out for the guests despite another chance for Rémy.
