From Dec. 13 to Jan. 1, the World's Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Champion will be judged for the 27th time at London's Alexandra Palace. 94 players and two players from 28 nations fight for fame, honor and a total prize money of almost three million euros.
Three German players are in this year. The German number one, Max Hopp, is set as number 24 and only intervenes in the tournament in the second round. Gabriel Clemens participates for the second time in a row while 22-year-old Nico Kurz celebrates his World Cup debut.
That on January 1, a German crowned in the "Ally Pally", would be a sensation. In the Powerranking the SPIEGEL introduces 14 players for whom the title dream is more realistic. Six of them may already call themselves Darts World Champion, for one it is definitely the last World Cup, another now prefers fishing and a third seems to have already passed his zenith at 34 years.
