Premier League: City and De Bruyne dismantle Arsenal

Mesut Özil had caused a stir in the past few days with political statements. But they shouldn't be an issue for 90 minutes: Arsenal experienced a debacle against Manchester City.

The Arsenal crisis continues. In the Premier League duel with Manchester City, the London club lost 0-3 (0-3). It was the seventh winless game in the past nine games, with City scoring Kevin De Bruyne (2nd and 40th minute) and Raheem Sterling (16th). The defending champion (35 points) is 14 points behind Liverpool in third place.

It was Arsenal's first game after Mesut Özil caused a stir with an Instagram post. In it, the former German international had spoken in favor of the Muslim minority of the Uighurs in China and denounced the silence of the majority Muslim states. In China, this caused trouble, and state television canceled the broadcast of the Manchester game.

Read here why Özil's statement is so explosive. Arsenal distanced itself from Özil's contribution, possibly because the club is pursuing commercial interests in China.

Against City Özil was in the starting line-up, as in every game under interim coach Freddie Ljungberg. The 31-year-old made an unremarkable game and was replaced in the 59th minute.

Arsenal can be caught off guard

It wasn't long before the guests were guided. Fernandinho drove the ball completely through the center and then sent Gabriel Jesus towards the baseline. The Brazilian kept the overview and played flat in the back area, where De Bruyne shot the ball untenable into the goal.

The Belgian was the preparer for the 2-0 win, although Arsenal's defenders outnumbered them but did not really attack him. De Bruyne used the space and served Sterling in the center, who only had to push it in. Before the break, De Bruyne scored his second goal by placing the ball from full swing with the weaker left foot next to the post. It was almost enough for a hat trick, but Bernd Leno prevented a dream goal from about 20 meters with a flight parade.
