Real Madrid snatched a 1-1 draw away from home with Valencia in the Primera Liga, with a goal from Karim Benzema in stoppage time, after saving a header from his goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
With this tie, Real Madrid, who finished second with 35 points, equaled leaders Barcelona three days before visiting their traditional rivals in the top game next Wednesday.
Spanish striker Carlos Soller put Valencia in the lead in the 78th minute after meeting a pass from Daniel Wass with a shot in the goal from close range, but the visiting team refused to surrender and Courtois came out of his net in a corner kick in a last-ditch effort.
The goal prevented Valencia from advancing to sixth place in the standings and remained seventh with 27 points.
