In his function as FIFA President, Joseph Blatter had paid 1.8 million euros to former UEFA President Michel Platini. FIFA has been demanding the money back for years - now it is increasing the pressure.

Fifa has filed a lawsuit against its former president Joseph Blatter and former vice president Michel Platini in a Swiss court. The World Football Association announced. It is about the recovery of two million Swiss francs (a good 1.8 million euros) that had been paid during the tenure of Blatter to the then Uefa boss Platini.

In its statement, Fifa stated that it felt "obliged to recover payments that were made illegally by one official to the other." She pointed out that the Swiss Federal Supreme Court had classified the payments as "inadmissible".

The payment was made in February 2011. In December 2015, FIFA blocked Blatter and Platini for eight years. These blocks were reduced to six years in February of the following year and later to four years. Platini had nevertheless refused to repay, and according to the World Association, he was also said not to have paid the fines and court costs.
