Norway's exceptional talent Marius Lindvik also won the qualification for Bergisel jumping. At the penultimate stop of the four-hill tour, the 21-year-old junior world champion relegated Austrian Stefan Kraft and Germany's tour hope Karl Geiger to places two and three.
At 131.5 meters, Geiger jumped as far as Lindvik, but the Norwegian won with more points. In addition, Geiger was able to beat leader Ryoyu Kobayashi in second place overall. The previous year's winner finished fifth with 130 meters.
Geiger is 6.3 points behind Kobayashi in the overall ranking before the penultimate competition, but also only 2.2 points ahead of Poland's Dawid Kubacki. Garmisch surprise winner Lindvik is a little behind with 18.9 points behind the lead in fourth place.
Bad and good memories
Over the past year, German ski jumpers have repeatedly lost title chances on the Turkish Bergisel ski jump in Innsbruck. In 2016 Severin Freund fell as the first pursuer of Peter Prevc in the test run, had suffered minor bruises and had not achieved his top performance in the first jump. In 2018 Richard Freitag had to end the tour prematurely after crossing the skis when landing as the overall leader. Last year, Markus Eisenbichler and Kobayashi fought a thrilling duel - until the German, as 13th, lost all chances on the penultimate tour station.
A few weeks later, however, the German ski pilots collected all kinds of positive memories in Innsbruck. At the World Cup in February Eisenbichler won gold individually in front of Geiger. "We have already returned the favor for Innsbruck at the World Cup," said Geiger before qualifying for the jumping on Saturday (2 p.m., TV: ZDF and Eurosport, live ticker SPIEGEL)
